This cigar is a tribute to Don Fernando León Asensio, one of the most influential figures in La Aurora’s history. The wrapper comes from a 2008 Corojo harvest grown at the Sabana del Puerto experimental farm in Bonao. More importantly, it was the final special wrapper project Don Fernando developed before his passing in 2009. (La Aurora Cigars)

The Experience

The Legacy Lancero is about elegance, patience and the wrapper.

At 6 7/8 x 40, the cigar is long and slender, allowing that specially aged Corojo wrapper to play a major role in the smoking experience. La Aurora built the blend around a traditional Lancero format that rewards a slower, more deliberate pace.

The profile brings together wood, cinnamon, walnut, citrus and touches of pepper, creating a progression that feels distinctly Dominican while still carrying plenty of character. (La Aurora Cigars)

First Third

The opening brings a combination of cedar, spice and pepper, with the Corojo wrapper immediately making its presence known.

The thinner ring gauge keeps the wrapper front and center, while subtle sweetness begins to develop underneath the spice.

Second Third

As the cigar settles in, the profile becomes more layered.

Cinnamon and walnut begin to emerge alongside the wood, while the pepper becomes more integrated. There is also a citrus element that adds brightness and keeps the cigar from becoming too heavy.

This is where the Lancero format really starts to show why it matters.

Final Third

The final third brings the spice back into focus while the wood and nutty character remain underneath.

The citrus notes continue to provide contrast, giving the finish some lift rather than allowing the cigar to become dominated by pepper or wood.

The result is a medium-bodied finish with a good balance between spice, sweetness and aged tobacco character.

Construction & Burn

The traditional Lancero presentation includes a distinctive pigtail cap. The long, slender format requires a little more attention than a thicker ring gauge, but that is part of the experience.

A slow smoking pace is the right approach here. This is not a cigar to rush.

Overall Experience

The Fernando León Legacy Lancero is less about brute strength and more about appreciating what a great wrapper can bring to a cigar.

The combination of the 2008 Corojo, Dominican and Brazilian tobaccos, and the Lancero format creates a refined profile built around wood, spice, cinnamon, walnut, citrus and pepper.

More than anything, there is history behind this cigar. You are smoking tobacco from the final special wrapper project developed by Don Fernando León himself. (La Aurora Cigars)

Why It Stands Out

The 2008 Corojo wrapper is the story.

This wasn’t simply an aged wrapper selected after the fact. It came from a project Don Fernando developed at Sabana del Puerto, and that final harvest became part of his legacy.

The Lancero format is equally important. Its thinner ring gauge puts greater emphasis on the wrapper, making it a cigar for smokers who appreciate nuance and tobacco character over sheer size.

Pairing Suggestions

Espresso: The roasted character of espresso works naturally with the cinnamon, walnut and spice.

Black coffee: A simple pairing that allows the cigar to remain the focus.

Aged rum: The sweetness and oak character can complement the wood and spice profile.

Burnt Leaf Insight

The Fernando León Legacy Lancero is exactly the kind of cigar that fits the Burnt Leaf boutique cigar philosophy.

It isn’t about being the biggest cigar in the room.

It is about the story, the tobacco, the craftsmanship and the experience.

This is a cigar with a genuine connection to the history of La Aurora and Don Fernando León. The 2008 Corojo wrapper represents the final special wrapper project he developed, making this Lancero more than just another limited edition.

Some cigars are made to be smoked. Others are made to be remembered.
