LEAF BY OSCAR MADURO LANCERO

Leaf by Oscar Maduro Lancero — Burnt Leaf Review

Wrapper: Nicaraguan Jalapa Maduro
Binder: Honduran
Filler: Honduran
Factory: Oscar Valladares Tobacco & Co., Honduras
Size: 7 × 38 Lancero
Strength: Medium-Full

Flavor Profile

A rustic, earthy and rich Maduro. The Lancero format concentrates the wrapper nicely, bringing forward earth, cocoa, coffee, cedar, leather and black pepper, with a subtle sweetness underneath. Cigar Aficionado specifically noted earthy and tarry characteristics with hints of caramel and coffee.

Construction & Burn

The signature Leaf by Oscar presentation is unmistakable: the cigar comes wrapped in an additional tobacco leaf. Underneath is the oily Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper. At 7 × 38, the Lancero can be more sensitive to draw and construction than the larger vitolas, but a good one delivers a concentrated, flavorful smoke.

Overall Experience

This is where the Leaf by Oscar Maduro really shines. It’s not a polished, refined cigar—it has that rustic Honduran character that makes the brand distinctive. The Lancero adds intensity and keeps the flavors focused.

The progression can move from earth and cocoa → coffee, nuts and spice → black pepper, leather and deeper earth as it develops.

Burnt Leaf Rating: 9.0/10

Burnt Leaf Insight

Don’t judge this cigar by its appearance. Peel away that outer tobacco leaf and you’ve got a serious little Lancero. If you like Maduro wrappers, smaller ring gauges and earthy/peppery cigars, this is a very enjoyable smoke. Cigar Aficionado rated this specific Lancero 87 points, while a 2024 review scored it 91, so it’s a cigar that has generated some very different—but generally positive—reactions.
