Nat Cicco 1965 Aniversario Churchill

Overview

The Nat Cicco 1965 Aniversario Churchill is a premium, handmade Nicaraguan cigar from the same Aniversario 1965 line as the Toro, crafted to celebrate Nat Cicco’s founding year (1965). It uses the exact same blend of tobaccos as the other vitolas in the line — a mix of Nicaraguan filler and binder with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper — but in a longer format Churchill size (7” x 52).

Construction & Appearance

  • Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano leaf
  • Binder: Nicaraguan
  • Filler: Nicaraguan
  • Size: Approx. 7 inches long with a 52 ring gauge (classic Churchill proportions)
  • Cap: Usually features the traditional pigtail finish found across the Aniversario line.
  • The cigar is also semi box-pressed and built to produce an even draw and consistent burn.

Flavor Profile & Experience

The Churchill version gives you a longer, more drawn-out session with a richer development of flavor over time:

  • Cold draw: earthy and slightly spicy with hints of cedar.
  • Early smoke: notes of leather, sweet caramel, and molasses alongside cedar and pepper greet the palate.
  • Midway through: the blend tends to evolve into richer nuttiness and deeper-layered flavors, with hints of cocoa or sweet tobacco balancing the earthiness.
  • Finish: the longer length gives time for the strength to grow to a satisfying medium to medium-full body by the last third, with continued complexity and lingering wood and spice notes.

Strength & Ratings

  • Overall strength is medium to medium-full, similar to the Toro but felt more gradually thanks to the extra length.
  • This Churchill has been rated around 91–92 points by Cigar Aficionado, and even placed in Top 25 Cigars of the Year lists in past years, highlighting the blend’s quality relative to price.

Compared to the Toro

  • Same tobacco blend and construction as the Toro, but the Churchill’s longer format generally offers:
    • Slower, more nuanced development of flavor over the smoking session
    • A smoother progression in strength
    • A more leisurely smoking experience suited for extended relaxing sessions or pairing with coffee, whiskey, or a digestif.
